Syracuse University Brass Ensemble
Board of Directors Meeting
March 10, 2008
Minutes
Members present: Brenda Conley, Craig Elwood, Jim Greenwald, John McDivitt, Jim Shake, Jim Spencer, Mike Sponsler
Calendar Review:
Life Sciences Dedication: Jim Spencer said that it will be held in new Atrium. The space might be a bit tight for all attendees, but at least it will be indoors. Robert Ward's piece will be ready. Craig suggested Sean O'Loughlin (grayslacks.com) as a possible composer for a future commission. Jim said that we might aim in the future for an annual commission for the Holiday at Hendricks concert.
2008-2009 schedule dates were reserved in Hendricks.
Watertown: Some concern was expressed about the multiple groups scheduled for this concert.
Silver Screen Spectacular: March 16, Palace Theater. Jim Spencer: Larry Royer has animated flash video ready with names of pieces and and public domain clips. John: Positive publicity response received from senior homes and church; need participation of members in publicity. Jim G.: May need to bring some chairs. Suggested donation: Adults (18 and over) $5, seniors $3.
Oswego: Concerns expressed about too many December concerts, this one in a cold church.
Holiday at Hendricks: Jim Spencer said syndication is being arranged.
Calendar Development:
European tour possibilities: Craig described two possibilities (London-York-Edinborough and Rome-Florence-Venice) with 1-2 performances and two days per city. The performances might be combined with a local band. A rough estimate of cost might be $1500 for 10 days. Money will need to be collected months in advance with no refund for cancellation after a given date. Financial support might be offered based on need.
Next Board meeting, April 14, 2008
Respectfully submitted, Mike Sponsler
